Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Clodivac is a trivalent toxoid vaccine developed and manufactured by Biomed-Lublin for the prevention of gas gangrene in humans. The vaccine is composed of purified and concentrated toxoids derived from *Clostridium perfringens* type A, *Clostridium septicum*, and *Clostridium oedematiens* (also known as *Clostridium novyi*) type A, which are adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide. It is primarily indicated for the active immunization of individuals who have sustained deep, contaminated wounds or crush injuries where the risk of anaerobic infection and subsequent gas gangrene is high. By inducing the production of specific neutralizing antibodies against the lethal exotoxins (such as alpha-toxins) produced by these bacteria, Clodivac prevents the rapid tissue necrosis and systemic toxemia associated with clostridial myonecrosis.
