clofedanol

Clofedanol (also known as chlophedianol) is a centrally acting antitussive (cough suppressant) used for the symptomatic relief of dry or irritating coughs. It works primarily by suppressing the cough reflex through a direct effect on the cough center in the medulla of the brain. In addition to its antitussive action, clofedanol exhibits local anesthetic and antihistamine properties and may have mild antispasmodic and anticholinergic effects at higher doses. It is available over-the-counter in some countries (such as Canada under the brand name Ulone), but not in others like the United States[1][2][4][6].
