Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Clofenamide is a benzenedisulfonamide-based small molecule diuretic that acts as a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. By inhibiting carbonic anhydrase in the proximal convoluted tubule of the kidney, it reduces sodium and bicarbonate reabsorption, leading to increased excretion of sodium, bicarbonate, and water (diuresis). It is classified as a low-ceiling sulfonamide diuretic and has been used for its diuretic effects in cardiovascular conditions[1][8][5].
