Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Clomiphene citrate + folic acid is a fixed-dose combination product containing clomiphene citrate, a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM), and folic acid, a B-vitamin. Clomiphene citrate acts primarily by binding to estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, blocking negative feedback of endogenous estrogens. This stimulates the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which increases pituitary secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), promoting ovarian follicular development and ovulation[4][6][8]. Folic acid is included to support increased requirements during preconception and early pregnancy, reducing the risk of neural tube defects in offspring. The combination is used for ovulation induction in women with infertility due to anovulation or oligo-ovulation.
