Overview

Clonazoline is an imidazoline derivative that has been described in the literature as a sympatholytic and antihypertensive agent. It acts primarily as an alpha-adrenergic agonist, specifically targeting alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, leading to decreased sympathetic outflow and reduction of blood pressure. Clonazoline is structurally related to other imidazolines such as clonidine but is not widely used clinically or commercially available in most countries. Its primary indication was for hypertension, but it has largely been replaced by other agents with more favorable safety profiles.
