Overview

CloniBID is a 12-hour sustained-release oral formulation of clonidine hydrochloride, a centrally acting alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist. Developed by Addrenex Pharmaceuticals, it was designed for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). The drug works by stimulating alpha-2 adrenoreceptors in the brainstem, which results in reduced sympathetic outflow from the central nervous system and a subsequent decrease in peripheral resistance, renal vascular resistance, heart rate, and blood pressure. The sustained-release delivery system is intended to provide consistent therapeutic levels over a 12-hour period, allowing for twice-daily dosing.
