Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Clonidine Lauriad is a proprietary mucoadhesive buccal tablet formulation of clonidine hydrochloride developed using the Lauriad technology to provide extended-release, high local concentrations of clonidine within the oral cavity for the prevention and treatment of oral mucositis induced by radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy in cancer patients. As an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist with anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, clonidine delivered via this buccal system is intended to act locally on oral mucosa while limiting systemic exposure, addressing a major unmet need in head and neck cancer care where severe oral mucositis can cause debilitating pain, nutritional compromise, and treatment interruptions.[8][15][10][13]
