Overview

Cloperidone hydrochloride (BBP-101) is a non-opioid small molecule analgesic currently under clinical development by Beijing Bridge Biopharmaceutical for the management of postoperative pain. Chemically classified as a quinazolinedione derivative, cloperidone functions as an antagonist at the 5-HT2A serotonin receptor and alpha-1 adrenergic receptors. By modulating these pathways, the drug aims to provide effective pain relief following surgical procedures without the adverse effects typically associated with traditional opioids, such as respiratory depression, nausea, or the potential for addiction. It is administered via intravenous injection and is being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials in China, specifically for pain management following major abdominal surgeries.
