clopidogrel + abciximab

Clopidogrel + abciximab is a combination of two antiplatelet agents used in the context of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for patients with coronary artery disease or acute coronary syndromes. Clopidogrel is an oral thienopyridine-class antiplatelet drug that irreversibly inhibits the P2Y12 subtype of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) receptor on platelets, thereby reducing platelet aggregation. Abciximab is a monoclonal antibody fragment that binds to the glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor on activated platelets, blocking fibrinogen and von Willebrand factor binding and thus inhibiting the final common pathway for platelet aggregation. The combination has been studied to assess whether adding abciximab to clopidogrel pretreatment provides additional benefit in reducing ischemic events during PCI; however, clinical trials have shown no significant additional reduction in major adverse cardiac events or infarct size compared to clopidogrel alone in certain patient populations[1][4][5].
