clopidogrel + apixaban

Clopidogrel + apixaban is a combination antithrombotic regimen consisting of the P2Y12 platelet inhibitor clopidogrel and the direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) apixaban. Clopidogrel is a thienopyridine prodrug that irreversibly inhibits the P2Y12 receptor on platelets, thereby preventing ADP-induced platelet aggregation. Apixaban is a selective, reversible, direct inhibitor of factor Xa, which decreases thrombin generation and thrombus formation. This combination is typically used in patients who have concurrent indications for both antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy, such as those with atrial fibrillation undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or vascular surgery. The Petrovsky National Research Centre of Surgery has conducted retrospective clinical research to evaluate the safety and perioperative complication risks associated with this combination in patients undergoing non-cardiac vascular surgery.
