Clopidogrel + dexlansoprazole

Clopidogrel + dexlansoprazole is a fixed-dose combination of two pharmaceutical agents used together in clinical practice, though not as a single co-formulated product. Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet agent that acts as a prodrug, irreversibly inhibiting the P2Y12 ADP receptor on platelets to prevent platelet aggregation and reduce the risk of thrombotic cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and stroke[6][5]. Dexlansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by specifically inhibiting the H+,K+-ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells, thereby reducing stomach acidity and promoting healing of erosive esophagitis and relief from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)[1][8]. The combination may be used when both antiplatelet therapy and acid suppression are indicated, for example in patients with acute coronary syndromes who also have GERD or require protection against gastrointestinal side effects from antiplatelet therapy. Studies indicate that dexlansoprazole has less effect on clopidogrel’s activation compared to some other PPIs; however, minor pharmacokinetic interactions exist[4][5][8].
