Clopidogrel hydrogen sulphate is a small molecule antiplatelet agent being developed by Unimax Group for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. As a thienopyridine prodrug, it requires hepatic metabolism by cytochrome P450 enzymes, primarily CYP2C19, to form its active thiol metabolite. This active metabolite selectively and irreversibly binds to the P2Y12 subtype of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) receptors on the platelet surface. By blocking the binding of ADP to its receptor, clopidogrel prevents the subsequent ADP-mediated activation of the glycoprotein IIb/IIIa complex, which is the major receptor for fibrinogen. This action effectively inhibits platelet aggregation and reduces the risk of atherothrombotic events such as myocardial infarction and stroke. Unimax Group is currently advancing this candidate through preclinical development.
