Overview

Cloricromen is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the coumarin class, specifically a derivative of coumarins and phenylpropanoids. It acts as an antithrombotic agent and platelet aggregation inhibitor, primarily used for its ability to inhibit platelet aggregation in humans and experimental models. Its mechanism involves antagonizing or impairing pathways leading to blood platelet aggregation, which may include interference with activation phases or prostaglandin-thromboxane system signaling. In addition to its antiplatelet effects, preclinical studies suggest potential anti-inflammatory properties through reduction of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) production at the pre-transcriptional level. It has been investigated for use in conditions such as thrombosis, periodontitis (in animal models), ischemic retinal diseases, and cerebrovascular occlusive disease; however, clinical efficacy in some indications remains unproven[3][4][6][8].
