Overview

Clorindione is a synthetic anticoagulant of the indandione class. It acts as a vitamin K antagonist, inhibiting the synthesis of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors in the liver. This mechanism is similar to that of other oral anticoagulants like warfarin and phenindione. Clorindione has been used primarily for the prevention and treatment of thromboembolic disorders such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Its use has largely been replaced by safer or more effective alternatives due to concerns about side effects, including bleeding risk.
