Clorobiocin is an aminocoumarin antibiotic produced by Streptomyces roseochromogenes. It acts as a potent inhibitor of bacterial DNA gyrase by binding to the B subunit (gyrB), thereby inhibiting ATP-dependent DNA supercoiling and ultimately blocking bacterial DNA replication. Clorobiocin is structurally related to other aminocoumarins such as novobiocin and coumermycin A1. It exhibits strong antibacterial activity, particularly against gram-negative bacteria with impaired drug efflux systems and some gram-positive bacteria.
