clortermine

Clortermine is an anorectic drug of the amphetamine class, developed by Ciba in the 1960s for short-term adjunctive treatment of exogenous obesity. It is a sympathomimetic amine and a structural analogue of phentermine, specifically the 2-chloro analogue. Unlike typical amphetamines, clortermine produces very low rates of self-administration in animals and likely does not act primarily on dopamine pathways. Instead, it may function as a serotonin and/or norepinephrine releasing agent to suppress appetite. Its long duration allows for once-daily dosing. Common side effects include insomnia, dry mouth, palpitations, and tachycardia[3][4][6][8].
