Overview
Closantel sodium is a synthetic halogenated salicylanilide derivative used as a broad-spectrum anthelmintic in veterinary medicine. It is primarily indicated for the treatment and control of internal parasites in livestock, including the common liver fluke (*Fasciola hepatica*), blood-sucking gastrointestinal nematodes such as *Haemonchus contortus*, and larval stages of certain arthropods like the sheep nasal bot fly (*Oestrus ovis*). The drug's mechanism of action involves the uncoupling of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in susceptible parasites, which disrupts ATP synthesis and leads to metabolic failure and death. Viyash Life Sciences is currently developing this small molecule in the preclinical stage for animal health applications.
