Clostebol is a synthetic anabolic–androgenic steroid (AAS) and the 4-chloro derivative of the natural hormone testosterone. The addition of a chlorine atom at the fourth position prevents its conversion to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and estrogen. Clostebol acts as a weak AAS by binding to androgen receptors in muscle cells, promoting protein synthesis and muscle fiber repair. It also enhances nitrogen retention for anabolism and stimulates erythropoietin production to boost oxygen-carrying capacity. Medically, it has been used to treat conditions such as osteoporosis, anorexia, certain liver diseases, muscle wasting disorders, androgen deficiency states like delayed puberty in males, and minor skin wounds (often as topical esters). Clostebol is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency due to its potential use as a performance-enhancing drug[1][2][5][6].
