Overview

clostridia cluster XIVa, strain relative of sellimonas intestinalis, live is a specific live biotherapeutic bacterial strain developed by Vedanta Biosciences. It belongs to the Clostridia cluster XIVa and is phylogenetically related to the species *Sellimonas intestinalis*. This strain is a key component of **VE303**, a defined bacterial consortium consisting of eight clonal commensal bacterial strains. VE303 is designed to prevent recurrent *Clostridioides difficile* infection (rCDI) by restoring the gut microbiota and establishing colonization resistance. The strain contributes to the consortium's therapeutic effect by competing with *C. difficile* for essential nutrients and producing metabolites, such as short-chain fatty acids and secondary bile acids, which inhibit the germination and vegetative growth of the pathogen. It is administered orally in capsule form as part of the VE303 consortium, which is currently in Phase 3 clinical development.
