Overview

Clostridia cluster XIVa strain relative Dorea longicatena, live, is a specific bacterial strain used as a component of **VE303**, an investigational live biotherapeutic product (LBP) developed by **Vedanta Biosciences**. This strain belongs to the Clostridia cluster XIVa, a group of commensal bacteria known for their role in maintaining gut homeostasis. In the context of treating **Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI)**, this strain works as part of a defined consortium of eight clonal bacterial strains. Its mechanism of action involves restoring the gut microbiota to provide colonization resistance against *C. difficile*. This is achieved through competitive exclusion, nutrient competition, and the modulation of the metabolic environment—specifically by influencing bile acid metabolism to inhibit *C. difficile* spore germination and vegetative growth. VE303 is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials for the prevention of recurrent CDI.
