Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Clove oil is an essential oil extracted from the dried flower buds, leaves, and stems of the clove tree (Syzygium aromaticum). Its primary active component is eugenol (up to 85%), which provides analgesic (pain-relieving), antiseptic, antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antihistamine properties. Clove oil has been used traditionally for toothache relief and as a topical analgesic in dental care. It acts as a germicide against various bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. While it is widely used in foods and oral hygiene products for its flavoring and medicinal properties, robust clinical evidence supporting many therapeutic uses remains limited[1][2][3][5].
