Overview

Cloxyquin, also known as 5-chloro-8-hydroxyquinoline, is a small molecule with antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiprotozoal properties. It has been studied for its activity against bacteria, fungi, and protozoa, including strains of *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*. Cloxyquin acts by chelating metal ions, which disrupts microbial growth. Additionally, it activates the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) and is a novel activator of the two-pore domain potassium channel TRESK, which is linked to migraines and pain sensitivity.
