Clozic is a pharmaceutical drug classified as a non-acidic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and an oxyalkanoic acid. It exhibits disease-modifying properties in rheumatoid arthritis and possesses anti-proliferative effects, inhibiting the growth of various mammalian cell types. This cytostatic action, rather than cytotoxic, is thought to be mediated by its interaction with lipophilic cell target sites. Clozic was investigated for its anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic activities, including its effects on acute phase reactants and serum histidine levels. Clinical trials were conducted in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis, comparing it to D-penicillamine and aspirin, and also to gold.
