Overview

CLT-28643 is a novel synthetic small molecule that acts as a highly specific antagonist of the α5β1-integrin. It inhibits integrin-mediated fibrosis, angiogenesis, and inflammation. Its primary indication is the prevention of scarring (fibrosis) following glaucoma filtration surgery, aiming to improve surgical outcomes by reducing wound healing–induced blockage of aqueous drainage[1][5][7][9]. Preclinical data show anti-angiogenic, anti-fibrotic, and anti-inflammatory activity, with preferential application in ophthalmology, particularly glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration[5][7][8][9]. Development for cancer was discontinued (see development_status).
