Overview

CLYNAV is a DNA-based vaccine indicated for the active immunization of Atlantic salmon to reduce mortality and lesions associated with pancreas disease caused by Salmonid Alphavirus subtype 3 (SAV3). It was the first DNA vaccine for a food-producing species to be authorized in the European Union. The vaccine consists of a plasmid (pNNGH-SAV3-ns) that encodes the non-structural proteins of the virus; once injected, the host cells express these proteins to elicit a protective immune response. Originally developed by Elanco Animal Health, the product was acquired by Merck Animal Health in July 2024 as part of a broader acquisition of Elanco's aquaculture business.
