CLZ-2002 is a cell therapy consisting of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cell-derived neuronal regeneration-promoting cells, specifically Schwann cell-like cells differentiated from tonsillar mesenchymal stem cells. It is designed to promote remyelination of damaged peripheral nerves by restoring myelin sheaths and inducing nerve regeneration and myelination pathways, particularly in the sciatic nerve. The therapy also helps restore abnormal muscle tissues in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1 (CMT1). Developed primarily for peripheral neuropathies such as CMT1, it represents a pioneering approach using functional somatic cells for genetic neurological diseases. The drug is currently under clinical investigation with completed Phase 1 trials evaluating safety and tolerability via intramuscular injections.
