Overview

CLZ629 is an investigational long-acting injectable (LAI) small molecule being developed by Calibr, the drug discovery division of Scripps Research, for the treatment and prevention of HIV-1 infection. It functions as a capsid inhibitor, targeting the HIV-1 capsid protein (p24). By binding to the capsid, CLZ629 disrupts multiple essential stages of the viral replication cycle, including capsid assembly, disassembly, and the nuclear import of the viral genome. The drug is formulated for sustained release, intended to support a long-acting dosing schedule (potentially quarterly or less frequent) to improve patient adherence and provide a more convenient alternative to daily oral antiretroviral therapy.
