Overview

CMC 001 is an orally administered, manganese-based MRI contrast agent developed for the enhancement of liver, bile ducts, and gastrointestinal tract imaging. It is formulated as a powder for oral solution and is specifically designed to improve the detection and localization of focal liver lesions in patients who cannot receive gadolinium-based contrast agents due to contraindications such as severe chronic renal insufficiency. The active ingredient is manganese chloride tetrahydrate, which acts as a hepatobiliary contrast agent by increasing signal intensity in liver tissue during MRI scans. CMC 001 has received Orphan Drug Designation from the FDA for use in diagnostic MRI targeting focal liver lesions.
