Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CMD002 is a preclinical mRNA-based therapeutic being developed by COMED Therapeutics for the treatment of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). The therapy leverages COMED's proprietary intracellular delivery platform to deliver mRNA encoding the Survival Motor Neuron (SMN) protein. By introducing functional mRNA into the patient's cells, CMD002 aims to restore levels of the SMN protein, which is deficient in SMA patients due to mutations in the *SMN1* gene. This restoration is intended to prevent the degeneration of motor neurons and improve muscle function, addressing the root cause of the disease. CMD002 is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
