Overview

CMMAd is an autologous cell therapy composed of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from the patient's own adipose tissue. It is being developed by the Andalusian Initiative for Advanced Therapies (Fundación Pública Andaluza Progreso y Salud) for the treatment of faecal incontinence, specifically in patients with anal sphincter defects. The therapy involves the local administration of these stem cells into the damaged sphincter muscle, where they are intended to promote tissue regeneration and repair through paracrine signaling and potential differentiation into myogenic lineages. By restoring the structural and functional integrity of the anal sphincter, CMMAd aims to improve continence and patient quality of life. It has been investigated in Phase I/II clinical trials to evaluate its safety profile and therapeutic efficacy.
