CMPDA is a small molecule research compound that acts as a potent positive allosteric modulator (PAM) of α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) receptors. It demonstrates high selectivity for the GluA2 receptor subunit, binding at the modulator binding pocket located at the interdimer interface and clamshell hinges. This binding slows the rate of channel deactivation and enhances excitatory postsynaptic potentials (EPSPs). While AMPA receptor modulators are investigated for potential therapeutic applications in cognitive disorders, depression, and neurodegenerative diseases, CMPDA is primarily utilized as a pharmacological tool in basic neuroscience research to study receptor kinetics and synaptic function rather than as a clinical drug candidate.
