CMR316 is a first-in-class inhaled DPP4 inhibitor designed to stimulate lung stem cells to regenerate damaged lung tissue. It specifically targets type 2 alveolar epithelial cells (AEC2s) in the lung, promoting their expansion and the formation of new lung cells responsible for gas exchange. The drug was chemically modified to have low membrane permeability, allowing it to engage DPP4 specifically in the lung lumen. It is administered once weekly via nebulization at very low doses (1-2 mg).
