CMS203 is a small molecule phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor being developed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The drug is a collaborative development project between Shandong Lukang Pharmaceutical, Jinan Meiluwei Biotechnology, and Shanghai Zhongtuo Pharmaceutical. CMS203 works by inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme, which is responsible for the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the corpus cavernosum. By maintaining higher levels of cGMP, the drug promotes smooth muscle relaxation and increases blood flow to the penis, facilitating an erection in response to sexual arousal.
