CMV-ALT is an investigational adoptive immunotherapy product consisting of cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific T lymphocytes. Developed by Duke University, the therapy involves isolating and expanding a patient's own immune cells in the laboratory to target cells expressing CMV viral proteins. These activated immune cells are then infused back into the patient with the goal of seeking out and destroying tumor or infected cells that express CMV antigens, while sparing normal tissues. The approach is being evaluated for its ability to stimulate anti-CMV immunity, particularly in settings where patients are immunocompromised or at risk for CMV-related complications[1]. The process may also involve dendritic cell (DC) injections pulsed with pp65 RNA to further enhance immune response.
