Overview

This is an investigational allogeneic cell therapy consisting of cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) developed by the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The therapy is designed to treat refractory glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) by targeting CMV antigens, specifically the pp65 and IE1 proteins, which are frequently expressed in glioblastoma tumor cells but not in healthy brain tissue. The product is composed of donor-derived T cells that are expanded in vitro using CMV peptides and cytokines. This adoptive cellular therapy approach aims to leverage the immune system's existing recognition of CMV to generate a targeted anti-tumor response against GBM cells. It has been evaluated in Phase I-II clinical trials where patients receive lymphodepleting chemotherapy (fludarabine and cyclophosphamide) followed by the CTL infusion.
