CMV-specific T-lymphocytes (CMV-VST) is an adoptive cell therapy developed by Banc de Sang i Teixits (BST) for the treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in immunocompromised patients, particularly those undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The therapy involves the ex vivo expansion of T-lymphocytes from CMV-seropositive donors. These T cells are activated and expanded using dendritic cells pulsed with CMV-specific peptides, primarily the pp65 antigen, in the presence of cytokines like IL-2, IL-7, and IL-15. Once infused intravenously, these virus-specific T cells provide a targeted immune response to control CMV replication and restore viral immunity in the recipient. BST has developed a rapid and scalable production process using G-Rex culture technology to expand these cells under cGMP standards.
