Overview
CMVPepVax is an investigational peptide vaccine developed by City of Hope Medical Center for the prevention and control of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT). The vaccine is a chimeric peptide composed of a cytotoxic CD8 T-cell epitope from the CMV tegument protein pp65 and a tetanus T-helper epitope. It is formulated with the adjuvant PF03512676, a Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) agonist that enhances cellular immunity. CMVPepVax is specifically designed for HLA-A*0201 positive patients and is administered subcutaneously to stimulate the expansion of CMV-specific T cell subsets. This mechanism aims to boost cellular immunity against CMV reactivation, potentially reducing the need for toxic antiviral drugs in post-transplant patients with hematologic malignancies.
