CMW bone cement is a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-based acrylic bone cement used primarily in orthopedic surgery to anchor prosthetic implants to living bone. It is widely used for total hip and knee replacements and can also be utilized in the stabilization of vertebral fractures or luxations. The product line includes several formulations (CMW1, CMW2, and CMW3), which differ in viscosity and setting time to suit various surgical applications. Some variants are impregnated with gentamicin sulfate to provide local antibiotic prophylaxis against infection at the implant site. The mechanism of action is mechanical fixation—by hardening around the prosthesis and adjacent bone—and local antibiotic delivery when gentamicin-loaded versions are used[1][5][6].
