Overview

CMX-020 is a small molecule, lipid-based analgesic drug candidate developed by Cmxtwenty (formerly Cytometix Inc.). It is an analog of arachidonic acid and acts as a multi-modal receptor modulator, targeting cannabinoid receptors (CB1, CB2), melatonin MT1, adenosine A3, kappa-opioid, delta-opioid, and TRPV1 receptors. Notably, it does not activate the mu-opioid receptor, which is associated with addiction and respiratory depression. Chemically and mechanistically similar to AM404 (the active metabolite of acetaminophen), CMX-020 is designed to provide potent pain relief without hepatotoxicity. It is being investigated for various pain conditions, including sciatica, osteoarthritis, and neuropathic pain. The drug has completed Phase 1 trials for both intravenous and oral routes and has entered Phase 2 studies.
