CMX521

CMX521 is an investigational antiviral drug developed by Chimerix. It is a nucleoside analogue that acts as an inhibitor of viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, targeting the replication machinery of several RNA viruses. Originally developed for the treatment and prevention of norovirus infections, CMX521 has also demonstrated efficacy against related viral diarrheas such as rotavirus, sapovirus, astrovirus, and adenovirus. Preclinical studies have shown that it inhibits SARS-CoV-2 replication in human airway epithelial cells and reduces disease severity in animal models of COVID-19. The compound has been evaluated for both prophylactic and therapeutic use against respiratory viruses[1][2][3][4][5][6].
