Overview

CN201 (also known as ALF201) is an allogeneic cell therapy derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) being developed by Beijing Chengnuo Medical Technology (Allife Medicine). The therapy is variably described as consisting of iPSC-derived endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) or neural cells, intended to treat acute ischemic stroke. Its mechanism of action involves the transplantation of these cells to replace or repair damaged neural and vascular tissue, promoting functional recovery and neurovascular regeneration following an ischemic event. In April 2022, CN201 received implicit approval from China's Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE), making it the world's first approved clinical iPSC-derived cell candidate for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials.
