CN238 is a small molecule cGMP analogue that functions as an inhibitor of cGMP-dependent protein kinase (PKG). Developed by Mireca Medicines, it is intended for the treatment of inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) such as Retinitis Pigmentosa, where dysregulation of cGMP signaling leads to PKG overactivation and photoreceptor degeneration. In preclinical models, CN238 has shown the ability to preserve the viability and functionality of both photoreceptors and retinal ganglion cells. The compound is being advanced as part of the MM238 program, which utilizes a poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) based drug delivery system to provide sustained release of the therapeutic agent within the eye.
