CN54gp140 is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine candidate designed as an immunogen for HIV-1, specifically based on the envelope glycoprotein (Env) of clade C/B' HIV-1 strain 97/CN/54. It is intended to stimulate immune responses against HIV by presenting the gp140 portion of the viral envelope to the immune system. The vaccine has been studied both alone and in combination with adjuvants such as GLA-AF (a TLR4 agonist), aiming to enhance immunogenicity. Developed initially by Imperial College London and The Wellcome Trust, CN54gp140 has undergone early-phase clinical trials for safety and immunogenicity in healthy volunteers, primarily targeting prevention of HIV infection[1][2][6]. The protein is produced in CHO cells under GMP conditions for clinical research use[7].
