Overview

CNK-UT009 is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy being developed for the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). The therapy involves engineering a patient's own T cells to express a chimeric antigen receptor that targets NKG2D ligands (NKG2D-L), including MICA, MICB, and several members of the UL16-binding protein (ULBP) family. These ligands are typically upregulated on the surface of autoreactive T cells that are responsible for the autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing pancreatic beta cells. By selectively targeting and depleting these pathogenic immune cells, CNK-UT009 aims to halt the progression of the disease, preserve remaining beta cell function, and restore or maintain endogenous insulin secretion. It is currently undergoing early-phase clinical evaluation to determine its safety, maximum tolerated dose, and preliminary metabolic efficacy.
