CNP-Arg is a proprietary drug delivery platform developed by SiNON Nano Sciences, utilizing arginine-functionalized carbon nanoparticles (CNPs). The platform is specifically engineered to overcome the blood-brain barrier (BBB), a major obstacle in the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) disorders. The carbon nanoparticle core provides a stable scaffold for therapeutic payloads, while the surface functionalization with arginine residues facilitates transport across the BBB, likely through adsorptive-mediated transcytosis or interaction with specific amino acid transporters. Although the acronym 'CNP' in SiNON's nomenclature refers to their Carbon Nano Particle technology, the platform is designed to carry a variety of cargoes, including small molecules, proteins, and peptides such as C-type natriuretic peptide. The technology aims to improve the concentration of therapeutic agents in the brain while reducing systemic exposure and associated toxicity. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development for various neurological conditions and brain cancers.
