CNP3381 is an orally bioavailable small molecule that acts as a non-competitive antagonist of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. Developed by Contera Pharma, a subsidiary of Bukwang Pharmaceutical, the compound is primarily being investigated for the treatment of levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID) in patients with Parkinson's disease. By modulating overactive glutamatergic neurotransmission in the basal ganglia, CNP3381 aims to reduce involuntary movements (dyskinesia) without compromising the therapeutic motor benefits of levodopa therapy. In addition to its potential in Parkinson's disease, CNP3381 has been explored for its efficacy in treating various forms of neuropathic pain, where NMDA receptor overactivity plays a critical role in central sensitization and pain processing.
