Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CNSI-Fe(II) (Carbon Nanoparticle-Loaded Iron Suspension Injection) is an investigational nanomedicine developed by Sichuan Enray Pharmaceutical Sciences Company for the treatment of advanced solid tumors. The drug is a complex consisting of a carbon nanoparticle suspension and ferrous sulfate (Fe(II)). Administered via intratumoral injection, CNSI-Fe(II) leverages the properties of nanocarbon to facilitate the delivery of iron into tumor cells and increase the concentration of hydrogen peroxide within the tumor microenvironment. This triggers the Fenton reaction, which generates lethal levels of hydroxyl radicals and oxidative stress, ultimately inducing ferroptosis (iron-dependent programmed cell death). Additionally, the carbon nanoparticles provide photothermal conversion capabilities for potential photothermal therapy and retain the lymphatic mapping functions of the base carbon nanoparticle suspension. It is currently being evaluated in Phase Ib/IIa clinical trials for various advanced solid tumors, including pancreatic, colorectal, and breast cancers.
