CNTX-6016 is a novel, potent, and highly selective investigational small molecule agonist of the cannabinoid receptor type 2 (CB2). It is being developed as a non-opioid analgesic for the treatment of neuropathic pain and other chronic pain conditions. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that CNTX-6016 is approximately 16,000-fold more selective for CB2 over CB1 receptors and provides robust analgesia in animal models of neuropathic pain without evidence of tachyphylaxis or psychotropic effects associated with CB1 activation. The drug has shown high potency at human, rat, and dog CB2 receptors (EC50 values in the low nanomolar range) and does not significantly bind to other tested targets. Clinical development has focused on oral administration for painful diabetic neuropathy and neuralgia[2][5][6][7].
