CNTX-6970 is a novel, potent, and selective small molecule antagonist of the C-C chemokine receptor type 2 (CCR2). It is being developed as an oral, non-opioid analgesic for the treatment of chronic painful inflammatory conditions, particularly knee osteoarthritis pain. CNTX-6970 works by blocking CCR2 receptors, thereby inhibiting immune cells from releasing the cytokine CCL2 (also known as MCP-1) and preventing CCL2 from activating pain fibers to transmit pain signals. This dual neuro-immune mechanism targets both inflammation and neural signaling involved in chronic pain. The drug has demonstrated safety and pharmacologic activity in Phase 1 studies and is currently in Phase 2 clinical trials for inflammatory pain conditions such as osteoarthritis[1][4][5][6][8].
