Overview

Co-dydramol is a fixed-dose combination analgesic containing dihydrocodeine tartrate and paracetamol (acetaminophen). Dihydrocodeine is a semi-synthetic opioid analgesic with potency similar to codeine, acting primarily as an agonist at mu-opioid receptors to modulate pain perception. Paracetamol is a non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic that likely exerts its effects through the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes within the central nervous system, reducing prostaglandin synthesis. The combination is used for the treatment of moderate pain where simpler analgesics have proven insufficient. It is widely available in the United Kingdom as a generic medication and under various brand names.
